After the horrific news of the gang rape at Richmond High School in California, we released a video highlighting 2 people who DID SOMETHING while others did nothing during the sexual assault of the 15 year old female.  Soon after our video was released, the Office of Health Education at SUNY College at Oneonta requested for us to create a THANK YOU page for Paul Rubio and Margarita Vargas.

Here at DSP (The Date Safe Project, Inc.), we are always happy to help launch great ideas into positive actions. After reading the following message from the Office of Health Education, please sign the THANK YOU on this page AND then commit to the Pledge for Action toward the bottom of this page.

Invitation provided by the Office of Health Education at SUNY College at Oneonta:

This is a horrific crime, not just because 10 people participated in the rape, but because another 20 or so watched and looked on without doing anything. They did this for 2 ½ hours.

While most of the media has chosen to focus on the crime, there have been few stories about the heroes. This is one of the few (watch video here).

Two people decided to call 911. That’s it, it’s as simple as that. As a result of that action, the crime was stopped and the arrests began and the rape victim began getting the help she needed. One call. Any of us can do that.

It’s unfortunate that the heroes have not been part of the media focus. Tell your friends, your colleagues. Good acts deserve to be recognized. However, let us all be willing to be the hero, the bystander who steps in and does something-something as simple as calling 911. Not waiting to see if someone else does, not thinking that its’ someone else’s responsibility, but just making the call.

Miracles happen every day. We tend to think about them happening to us, instead we should think about making them happen for others.

Take action & sign below to say THANK YOU to Paul Rubio and Margarita Vargas for TAKING ACTION in the Richmond High School Gang Rape.  As you see, you can leave comments for everyone to read.  AFTER clicking on "Sign the petition" button below, scroll down the page til you see the words COMMIT YOURSELF.  Then,  show your commitment to making a difference!!

Emily,
Dear Paul and Margarita,
I heard so much about how two dozen who saw rape didn't call the police, and even enjoyed the show, and I'm really glad you two did do the right thing once you heard. It's times like this that can renew a lot of people's faith in human nature, and I hope more people follow your example.

Amy,
Thank you for not being a bystander!!

Abby,
Thank you, Margarita and Paul. You are truly heroes.

Ian,

Michelle,
I COMMEND YOU TWO.

Heather K,
Margarita and Raul,
Thank you for being brave and for caring about a human being whose suffering we cannot imagine. YOU are heroes just by being yourselves. I wish I could meet you and tell you in person that I admire and respect your decision. I have not slept one night since the news broke and hope that those cowards who just stood around watching suffer the same.
God Bless You Margarita for making that call!
Best,
Heather

Victoria,
Raul, you have the stuff of greatness. You did not follow, you broke out and decided to do something different. Your life path now goes in a direction other than it was before this action.
Margarita, you provided the strength for seeing Raul's difference through.
Thank you!
