I saw Mike's presentation last night at the GAC campus. I really enjoyed it! I wasn't expecting what he had to say about rape. However, I'm really glad he talked about it. Between my two sisters and I, one has been raped and the other two have been sexually assaulted in one way or another. I also have a friend who was gang raped. What Mike said about how he reacted to hearing about his sisters rape was very familiar to me. I reacted in the same way. First I wanted to hurt the person(s) who did this to these people I love. Then, I just wanted to say and do the right thing. I know I said, "I'm so sorry." After his presentation last night I wanted to let these people know how much I love them and how proud of them I am. I talked to my sister last night. I know she was surprised at what I had to say, but I think in the end she was touched and we had a great conversation. I let her know I'd always be there for her. Unfortunetly, the guys who raped my friend and sister all got away with it. Good news is, these are strong, beautiful, amazing women who have done wonderful things with their lives thus far. I think it'll only get better from here.
